Obverse description Laureate and crowned bust of King John II Casimir Vasa facing right, wearing elaborately decorated armour with a chain and order of knighthood visible at the chest, the hair rendered in flowing curls falling to the shoulder. The effigy is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of mid-17th-century Polish hammered gold coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait, with the Latin royal titulature legend distributed around the periphery reading IOAN: CAS: D: G: REX POL: ET SVE: M: D: L: R: P.
