| Beschrijving keerzijde | A detailed panoramic view of the city of Danzig (Gdańsk) as seen from the Vistula River, with the skyline of churches, towers, and buildings rendered in fine relief. In the lower portion of the field, the crowned arms of the city of Gdańsk — a shield bearing two crosses surmounted by a crown, flanked by two lions rampant — are prominently displayed. Above the cityscape, a radiant sun emits rays, with the Hebrew Tetragrammaton (YHWH) inscribed within the solar disc, a common motif on Gdańsk coinage of this period. The mint master's initials G-R appear in the lower field, and the date 1642 is incorporated into the circumferential Latin legend MON AUREA CIVITA − TIS GEDANEN 1642 G-R, translating as 'Gold coin of the city of Gdańsk.' |
