Obverse description Armored bust of Maurice, Prince of Orange, facing slightly left with ruff collar, surrounded by a circular Latin legend in script lettering. The broad decorative border contains seven cartouches bearing the heraldic shields of the seven United Provinces, each labeled with its province name: Groeningen, Gelria, Holland, Zeeland, Trajectum (Utrecht), Frisia, and Transisalania, interspersed with elaborate strapwork ornament. A radiant sunburst device appears at the top of the border.
