Obverse description Central field features a crowned tower (castle), a heraldic device symbolic of Tortosa, flanked by ornamental laurel or olive branches set within a decorative frame. The denomination numeral appears in the left and right fields, while the mint place name is inscribed below the central device. The whole is encircled by an elaborately ornamented border. The design reflects the emergency coinage style of the Peninsular War period.
