Obverse description Radiate laureate bust of Emperor Vespasian facing right, draped at the shoulder, rendered in bold high relief characteristic of early Flavian portraiture. The emperor's mature, strong-featured effigy displays the characteristic square jaw, furrowed brow, and close-cropped hair of Vespasian's official iconography. The radiate crown, indicating the dupondius denomination, rises prominently above the head. The encircling legend is deeply struck in capital Latin letters around the periphery of the flan.
