正面描述 Laureate head of Vespasian facing left, rendered in bold relief with characteristic portraiture of the Flavian dynasty. The emperor's features are depicted with realism, showing a strong jaw and close-cropped hair crowned by a laurel wreath. The encircling legend runs clockwise around the obverse field.

背面描述 A winged caduceus, staff entwined with two serpents and surmounted by wings, is depicted upright at center, flanked symmetrically by two crossed cornucopiae curving outward from the base. The design is arranged as a compact, emblematic composition in the field, with the encircling legend distributed around the periphery. The reverse type alludes to prosperity and the blessings of peace under Vespasian's rule.

附加信息

Vespasian assumed the censorship in 73 AD alongside his son Titus — the first emperor to hold the office since Claudius — using it to purge and reconstitute the Senate after the upheavals of the Year of the Four Emperors. The CENSOR title appearing in the legend dates this issue precisely to that censorial year, making it one of the more historically pinpointed coins in the Flavian series.

RIC II.1 760 is a Rome mint issue from a reign that systematically reformed the coinage after Nero's debasements. The dupondius denomination was distinguished from the as by the radiate crown, a convention Vespasian maintained consistently throughout his issues.
