She extends her right hand to pour a libation from a patera over a small lighted and garlanded altar positioned to the lower left of the field. In her left hand she holds a winged caduceus and a branch, attributes emblematic of peace, prosperity, and divine favour. The legend PAX AVG is inscribed in the field, with the senatorial authorisation mark S C prominently displayed, denoting the Senatus Consultum authorising the issue of base-metal coinage. The composition is executed in the refined, classicising style characteristic of official Flavian imperial bronzes struck at the Rome mint. |
