This dupondius belongs to a brief but significant series struck in the name of Titus as Caesar under Vespasian — a deliberate messaging exercise following the civil wars of 68–69 AD. The CONCORDIA AVGVSTI legend was not an abstract sentiment; it was a direct assertion that dynastic harmony had been restored after a year in which four men held the throne. Vespasian had come to power through war, and his court knew it.
RIC II.1 481 is among the rarer Titus-as-Caesar bronze issues from this joint-reign period, with production concentrated in a narrow window before Titus's own accession in 79 AD.
