Obverse lettering TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVST IMP VIII
(Translation: Tiberius Caesar Divi Augusti Filius Augustus, Imperator Octavus. Tiberius Caesar, son of divine Augustus, emperor (Augustus), supreme commander (Imperator) for the eighth time.)
Reverse description A small laureate and draped bust of Tiberius, facing right, set at the center of a round clipeus (shield) adorned with a raised circle of petals along its edge, the whole enclosed within an outer decorative border of alternating palmettes and dots. The shield motif, known as the clupeus virtutis, evokes the honorary shield awarded to Augustus by the Senate. The reverse legend CLEMENTIAE S C flanks the central device, invoking the Augustan virtue of clemency and affirming the senatorial authority for the coin's issue.
