Additional information

Struck in 22–23 AD, this dupondius belongs to a sequence of issues celebrating Justitia at a politically charged moment: Tiberius was consolidating power after the death of Germanicus in 19 AD had briefly destabilized his position, and the Senate was growing increasingly deferential — or fearful. The personification of Justice was a deliberate rhetorical choice, projecting an image of lawful, restrained rule at precisely the time Sejanus was beginning his ascent within the Praetorian Prefecture.

TR POT XXIIII fixes the issue firmly within a single tribunician year, giving it unusually tight dating for a bronze provincial issue of this period.
