背面描述 The personification of Tranquillitas stands in full figure facing left at centre, draped in a long tunic and mantle, raising a long sceptre or hasta in her right hand while her left arm rests upon a short column at her side. The letters S and C (Senatus Consultum) appear prominently in the field to either side of the figure, flanking her at mid-body level, denoting the senatorial authority for this bronze issue. The encircling legend TRANQVILLITAS AVG COS III P P is distributed around the upper and lower periphery within a beaded border. The reverse field displays a fine green patina with areas of earthen encrustation consistent with extended circulation and burial.

附加信息

The TRANQVILLITAS types under Hadrian belong to a broader programmatic series celebrating abstract virtues — issued in the wake of his extensive provincial tours and likely intended to project imperial stability after years of the emperor's conspicuous absence from Rome. The Senate, never entirely comfortable with Hadrian's Hellenic tastes and extended travels, received these issues as political messaging as much as coinage.

COS III dates this piece to Hadrian's third consulship, held from 119 AD but invoked on coins well into the 130s as a dating honorific rather than an active office.
