The "Restitutori" series, issued under Hadrian between 130 and 133 AD, reflects his unprecedented program of provincial tours — he visited more of the empire in person than any emperor before or after him. Gallia was among the provinces honored with a personified restoration type, framing his travels as acts of renewal rather than inspection or control. The political messaging was deliberate: Hadrian was recasting imperial authority as stewardship.
RIC II.3 1855 is catalogued under the third edition's substantial revision of Hadrian's bronze coinage, which redistributed many previously misattributed types.
