| Reverse description | The reverse depicts Hadrian, togate and standing right, extending his right hand to raise the kneeling personification of Achaea, who is shown in draped garments and kneeling before him in a gesture of submission and gratitude. Hadrian holds a scroll or patera in his left hand. The standing figure of Achaea or a secondary personification may be discerned behind, and the composition conveys the imperial programme of provincial restoration celebrated during Hadrian's travels in Greece circa AD 128-132. The senatorial authority for the issue is denoted by the letters S C flanking the field, while the encircling legend RESTITVTORI ACHAIAE proclaims Hadrian's role as restorer of the province. A beaded border frames the entire reverse design. |
