This reverse type belongs to Hadrian's celebrated 'Provinces' series, commemorating the emperor's extensive travels throughout the empire. The legend CAPPADOCIA is distributed in the field, with the senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the central figure to either side. The composition is characteristic of the provincial allegory types struck at Rome between 130 and 133 AD. |
