附加信息

The ALEXANDRIA types struck under Hadrian commemorate his tour of Egypt in 130–131 AD, one leg of the extraordinary provincial journey he undertook through the eastern empire during these years. His visit to Alexandria was politically significant — the city had been badly destabilized by the Jewish revolt of 115–117 AD under Trajan, which devastated its Jewish population and left parts of the city in ruin. Hadrian's presence, and the coin series it generated, was partly a gesture of imperial attention to a province still recovering.

The S C attribution places this firmly as a Roman senatorial issue rather than a local Alexandrian mint product — distinct from the lead and billon tetradrachms Alexandria produced concurrently under its own civic coinage system.
