To her left, a basket overflowing with corn or fruits symbolises the agricultural wealth of the province. The composition is a celebrated example of Hadrian's 'Provinces' series, celebrating the emperor's travels and the diversity of the empire. The reverse legend AFRICA appears above or around the figure, with the senatorial authorisation S C prominently placed in the field. |
