| Beschrijving keerzijde | The personification of Aegyptos reclines to the left, her body draped in flowing robes, holding a sistrum in her raised right hand as an allusion to the Isiac cult of Egypt. Her left arm rests upon a large wicker basket overflowing with fruit, symbolising the province's celebrated agricultural abundance. To the left of the figure stands an ibis, typically perched atop a low column, serving as a further emblematic reference to the sacred fauna of Egypt. The reverse type belongs to Hadrian's celebrated 'Provinces' series, issued to commemorate his imperial travels. The exergual field is plain, with the abbreviated senatorial authority legend AEGYPTOS S C distributed in the field. |
