The ADVENTVS series under Hadrian commemorates his extraordinary tour of the provinces between 121 and 134 AD — arguably the most extensive tour of empire ever undertaken by a sitting emperor. The Cilicia issue belongs to his eastern circuit of around 131–132, when he visited the province, founded or refounded at least one city, and almost certainly reviewed the legions stationed along the Euphrates frontier. These provincial adventus coins were struck in matched series at Rome, not in the provinces themselves, making them a retrospective propaganda exercise rather than a contemporaneous issue.
