Nero's VICTORIA AVGVSTI coinage was tied directly to the Armenian settlement of 63 AD, in which the general Gnaeus Domitius Corbulo forced a diplomatic resolution after years of costly campaigning against Parthia — a compromise that let both empires claim victory. The Senate declared it a triumph regardless. Nero took the credit publicly and enthusiastically, despite never leaving Italy.
Orichalcum dupondii of this type were struck across a six-year window at Rome, with RIC 448 among the more frequently encountered varieties from the latter half of Nero's reign.
