Obverse description Bare-headed, laureate bust of Nero facing left, with a small globe at the point of the neck truncation, rendered in a naturalistic Julio-Claudian portrait style with detailed curling hair. Reverse description The personification of Securitas, nude to the waist and draped below, seated right upon an ornate throne, her head resting in contemplation upon her raised right hand while her left hand holds a short vertical sceptre. Before her stands a lighted and garlanded altar upon which a lighted torch rests against a bucranium, symbolising sacred security and stability. The abbreviated legend SECVRITAS AVGVSTI arcs across the upper field, while the large senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanks the central design in the lower field.
