Obverse description The obverse bears no portrait effigy; instead, the inscription AVGVSTVS TRIBVNIC POTEST is displayed in three horizontal lines across the field, set within a prominent oak wreath (corona civica). The wreath, rendered in fine detail with individual leaves and berries, frames the legend on all sides. This design, referencing Augustus's tribunician power, substitutes the honorific inscription for the customary imperial bust, a distinctive feature of early Augustan aes coinage struck under the moneyers of the tresviri monetales.
