The jugate portrait arrangement emphasizes dynastic continuity between the deified Caesar and his adopted heir. The encircling legend IMP CAESAR DIVI F DIVI IVLI runs around the periphery, identifying Octavian as Imperator Caesar, son of the divine Caesar, and son of the divine Julius. The flan is irregular with a slightly ragged edge, typical of the provincial hammered coinage of Lugdunum in this period. |
