| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed armour and paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The emperor's beard is rendered in the short, early Hadrianic style. The circular Latin legend IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS HADRIANVS AVG runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan, framed by a beaded border. The portrait reflects the transitional iconography of Hadrian's earliest coinage, retaining elements of Trajanic portraiture while introducing the bearded imperial image that would become the hallmark of his reign. |
