| Beschrijving keerzijde | The personification of Aeternitas stands facing, her head turned to the left, draped in a long flowing garment. She extends both arms outward, holding in her right hand a bust of Sol (the Sun) and in her left hand a bust of Luna (the Moon), symbolising the eternal, cyclical nature of time under imperial rule. The senatorial authorisation marks S and C (Senatus Consulto) flank the figure in the left and right fields respectively. The reverse legend AETERNITAS AVGVSTI encircles the design, proclaiming the eternal duration of the emperor's reign, a programmatic theme of Hadrian's early coinage. |
