The wreath is rendered with carefully detailed individual leaves arranged symmetrically around the central legend. The field within the wreath is fully occupied by the bold, well-spaced inscription. This reverse type was employed by Galba to legitimise his short reign by invoking traditional Republican values and presenting himself as a saviour of the Roman people. The overall composition is bold and emblematic, with no exergue line. |
