| Beschrijving keerzijde | The personification of Libertas depicted as a draped female figure standing facing left in full length, her weight balanced in a classical contrapposto stance. She extends her right hand forward holding a pileus (the freedom cap, symbolic of the emancipation of slaves and Roman liberty), while her left hand holds a vindicta (rod or wand), the ceremonial staff used in manumission rites. The legend LIBERTAS PVBLICA encircles the field above, with the senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the figure in the lower field. The reverse surface is heavily encrusted with patina, though the central figure and attributes remain discernible. |
