| Reverse description | Mars, the Roman god of war, depicted striding vigorously to the left, clad in military attire including helmet, cuirass, and short tunic. In his extended right hand he holds a small figure of Victory, while his left arm bears a large trophy over his shoulder, its drapery billowing behind him. The bold, dynamic pose of Mars conveys martial vigour and imperial triumph, consistent with the artistic conventions of the Flavian period. The senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is prominently placed in the field to either side of the figure, in large letters flanking Mars at mid-height. The reverse field is otherwise plain, focusing attention on the central martial composition. |
