In his extended right hand he holds a spear or trophy, while over his left shoulder a small figure of Victory is borne, holding a wreath and palm branch. The senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is placed in the field to either side of the central figure, all contained within a beaded border. The composition conveys the martial ideology of Domitian's reign and his claimed victories on the Germanic frontier. |
