Obverse lettering IMP CAES DOMITIAN AVG GERM COS XI
(Translation: Imperator Caesar Domitianus Augustus Germanicus, Consul Undecimum. Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, Domitian, emperor (Augustus), conqueror of the Germans, consul for the eleventh time.)
Reverse description Central field features a trophy of Germanic arms, beneath which a male German captive is seated to the left in a posture of dejection, hands bound. To the right of the trophy, the personification of Germania is seated facing left, her head bowed in mourning, evoking Roman dominance over the Germanic tribes following Domitian's campaigns. The senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears prominently in the field, to the left and right of the trophy. The composition is a standard Flavian commemorative type celebrating the emperor's Germanicus title.
