Domitian's FORTVNAE AVGVSTI coinage of 86 AD belongs to a period when the emperor was actively restructuring the Roman monetary system — he had restored the silver content of the denarius to Augustan standards the previous year, a reform that lasted only until 85 AD before economic pressure forced a reversal. The bronze series continued uninterrupted through these fluctuations, making dupondii of this type the most stable coinage circulating in Rome during a financially turbulent decade.
