| Beschrijving keerzijde | A crocodile facing right, chained to an erect palm-shoot whose long vertical fronds extend upward with the tip curving to the left; above and to the left, a laurel wreath with elongated ribbons or ties. The crocodile motif, a reference to the conquest of Egypt, is rendered with naturalistic detail typical of the Nemausus colonial coinage. The reverse legend is divided around the central device. The palm and crocodile together form a celebrated and enduring civic emblem of the colony of Nemausus (modern Nîmes). |
