Reverse description A tall palm tree occupies the center of the field, to the base of which a Nile crocodile is chained, symbolizing the Roman conquest of Egypt. A wreath with long, flowing ties is suspended above the crown of the palm. The colonial legend is divided to the left and right of the central device in two lines. The design is a celebrated emblem of the Colonia Nemausus (modern Nîmes, France), referencing the Egyptian veterans settled there by Augustus following the Battle of Actium.
