The Warsaw mint struck ducats under Stanisław August Poniatowski beginning in the mid-1760s, a period when the king was already navigating the suffocating interference of neighboring powers — Russia in particular — in Polish internal affairs. The mint had been relicensed specifically to support monetary reform efforts tied to the broader Poniatowski-era currency overhaul of 1766, the same legislative push that reorganized the złoty system.
Kop. 2495 and 2496 represent two distinct die variations catalogued by Kopicki, likely differing in legend punctuation or crown form — collectors working this series without access to Kopicki's plates frequently conflate them.
