Dukat koronny - Sigismund III Vasa Malbork mint

Sigismund III established the Malbork mint in the 1590s partly to exploit the economic infrastructure of Royal Prussia, a region with deep commercial ties to Gdańsk and the Baltic grain trade. Gold ducats from this mint circulated primarily in international mercantile transactions rather than domestic exchange — the denomination was simply too valuable for ordinary use. Production at Malbork was never large, and the facility operated intermittently, which accounts for the multiple Kopicki references covering what amounts to a handful of closely related die combinations across the seven-year span.
