Sigismund I died on April 1, 1548, making any dukat struck that year a product of his final months — or issued posthumously in his name before the mint transitioned to Sigismund II Augustus. Sorting which 1548 ducats belong to which reign has occupied Polish numismatists for decades, and Kopicki 455 falls squarely into that contested zone.
