Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of Gelderland surmounted by an ornate mural crown adorned with trefoil and berry decoration. The shield is divided into four quarters, each bearing rampant lions facing one another, rendered in high relief in the baroque style typical of Dutch provincial coinage. A circular legend in Latin reads IN DEO SP NOST (an abbreviation of IN DEO SPES NOSTRA, meaning 'In God is our hope'), positioned around the perimeter of the coin. The rim is bordered by a fine beaded or milled edge. This side serves as one of the two obverse dies used in this documented hybrid striking.
