Obverse description A fully armored knight on a rearing horse to right, brandishing a drawn sword aloft with the right hand. Beneath the horse, a crowned shield bearing the arms of the Duchy of Gelderland occupies the lower field. The design is executed in high relief consistent with piedfort production, with bold, deeply struck details characteristic of mid-17th-century Dutch provincial coinage. The peripheral legend is inscribed in Latin, separated by pellets and rosettes.
