Reverse description Central achievement of the arms of the Dutch Republic: a crowned shield bearing the rampant lion of the Netherlands, supported on either side by a rearing lion guardant, all rendered in bold high relief consistent with the piedfort striking. Below the central shield, the smaller arms of Amsterdam — a shield charged with three saltire crosses — appear in the lower field. The date 1673 is prominently displayed at the top of the field, flanked by the beginning of the circular Latin legend CONCORDIA RES PARVÆ CRESCUNT, which runs continuously around the periphery. The milled border frames the composition on all sides.
