Obverse description Within an inner circle, an armored knight on a charging horse advances to the right, brandishing a raised sword in his right hand; the provincial arms of Overijssel appear beneath the horse. The equestrian figure is rendered in high relief in the characteristic Dutch Silver Rider tradition. The encircling Latin legend runs along the outer rim, separated from the inner circle by a beaded border.

Reverse description Within an inner circle, the crowned coat of arms of the Union of the Seven United Provinces is prominently displayed, flanked on each side by a rampant crowned lion serving as supporter. The date appears at the top of the field at the termination of the encircling Latin legend. A beaded border separates the inner circle from the outer legend, which contains the well-known Dutch republican motto.
