| Obverse description | Left-facing bust of Borso d'Este, first Duke of Ferrara, occupying the central field, depicted with long flowing hair and wearing a ducal cap or coronet adorned with a jewelled ornament at the centre. The bust is rendered in fine Renaissance relief with detailed drapery at the truncation. A beaded inner border frames the effigy, with the Latin circumscription reading BORSIVS · DVX · ZC · FERRARE ZC running along the outer legend. The portrait displays the characteristic profile style of Italian Renaissance medallic art. |
