| Reverse description | Full-length effigy of Saint Oswald, King and Martyr, depicted in full plate armor, standing facing with visor raised, wearing a crown upon his head. The saint holds a long halberd or lance vertically in his right hand, its staff extending the full height of the figure. The figure is rendered in the bold, somewhat naive style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century hammered gold coinage of the Low Countries, contained within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding peripheral legend in Latin capitals identifies the patron saint by name and title. |
