Obverse description Armored bust of Sigismund II Augustus facing right, wearing an ornate crown and plate armor with elaborately engraved pauldrons visible at the shoulder. The king's bearded effigy is rendered in high relief in the Renaissance style, with fine detail in the hair and facial features. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading SIGIS AVG REX POLO M D LITV, broken by the bust, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
