Reverse description The quartered arms of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège, comprising the heraldic charges of the see — a perron and horizontal bars — and three fleurs-de-lis, displayed within an oval escutcheon surmounted by a prince-bishop's crowned mitre. The shield is supported by two elaborate drapery mantlings on either side. The circumferential Latin legend SEDE • VACANTE • * • DEC • ET • CAPLI • LEOD • encircles the design, proclaiming the authority of the Dean and Chapter of Liège during the vacancy of the episcopal see. A beaded border frames the entire reverse field.
