Obverse description Crowned and ornately mantled five-fold coat of arms displayed within an oval cartouche, the whole set upon crossed sword and crozier in saltire. The shield bears the arms of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège and the Duchy of Bavaria. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, identifying the issuer as Maximilian Henry, Elector of Cologne and Bishop of Liège.

Reverse description A four-line Latin inscription reading DVCATVS / NOVS DVC / BVLLONI / ENSIS, all contained within a recessed rectangular tablet framed by an elaborate baroque scrollwork border of foliate and volute ornament. The date 1654 appears in the exergual area below the tablet. The overall composition is characteristic of the ducal coinage of the Bouillon type struck under Maximilian Henry.
