| Obverse description | Central field depicts the gateway of Genoa (castello or city gate), rendered as a tall, turreted portal with an open arch, set upon a horizontal baseline suggestive of ground or a low platform. The architectural motif is enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a beaded border. The outer legend, struck in Gothic-style Latin capitals, reads the titulature of Ludovico Maria Sforza as Duke of Milan and Lord of Genoa, interrupted by dots and abbreviated stops. The overall design is characteristic of late 15th-century Genoese hammered gold coinage, with slightly irregular flan edges typical of hand-struck production. |
