Aanvullende informatie

Overijssel's klippe ducats of 1615–16 were produced as presentation or test pieces rather than circulating currency — the square planchet format at double weight served a ceremonial and administrative function, demonstrating the province's minting capability to the States-General during a period when Dutch provincial mints were actively competing for striking privileges. Overijssel had only recently reasserted meaningful autonomous coinage rights, and issues like this one were as much political instruments as monetary objects.

The Frits reference 267a and the HPM Ov24.4 designation confirm this as a recognized variety rather than a fantasy piece, though surviving examples are exceptionally rare.
