The scene closely follows the iconographic tradition of the Venetian ducat, reflecting the Order's commercial and cultural ties to Venice. The figures are rendered in the flat, stylized Gothic manner typical of hammered medieval gold coinage. The surrounding circular legend in uncial Latin identifies the Grand Master and invokes the patronage of Saint Mark of Venice. |
