Amadeus IX ruled Savoy under considerable constraint — his wife Yolande of France effectively governed in his name for much of his reign, as he suffered from severe epilepsy that left him periodically incapacitated. The ducal coinage issued in his name between 1465 and 1472 thus reflects a court where fiscal and minting decisions were largely hers. Yolande was sister to Louis XI of France, and that dynastic leverage shaped Savoyard monetary policy throughout the period.
