| Aanvullende informatie |
Schwyz was one of the three original forest cantons whose 1291 alliance formed the nucleus of the Swiss Confederacy, but its independent coinage authority was exercised sparingly and gold issues are genuinely rare. By 1674, the canton's financial activity was shaped heavily by its lucrative trade in mercenary soldiers — the same revenue stream that funded civic infrastructure and, occasionally, prestige coinage. Ducats of this type circulated within a network of Italian and German merchant transactions where the denomination's near-pure gold content was trusted across political boundaries.
Fr#378 is a recognized rarity within Swiss cantonal gold.
