| Beschrijving keerzijde | Within a richly decorated baroque cartouche featuring elaborate acanthus scrollwork and foliate ornaments at the top and bottom, the five-line Latin inscription proclaims the denomination and issuing authority of the Republic of Zürich. The date 1697 is set in the lower exergual area beneath a pair of crossed palm or laurel sprigs. The entire composition is enclosed by a milled border, with the cartouche filling the field in a bold, deeply struck manner characteristic of late 17th-century Swiss municipal coinage. |
